Veteran's Day

Just want to say happy Veteran's Day to all who are or have served in our nation's armed forces. I have many people in my family that served including a brother, a brother-in-law, and a grandpa. Thank you to all who gave all or part of their life for the betterment of ours. What you have given can never be re-paid.

Since it was Veterans Day, I decided to go to one of my favorite places in Chattanooga, the Chattanooga National Cemetery. This day was especially noteworthy since it was 11-11-11. To top it off, I decided to take this picture at 11:11:11 in the morning. That is a lot of ones...

So here it is... What do you think?

While I was there, I noticed a man standing over a grave. When I approached him, he told me that it was his father's. I really enjoyed hearing his story. His father lied about his age so he could enlist. He served in WWII. I felt a common spirit with the son. He shared my reverence for this place. I am sure some of it was the physical attachment of having family buried there. But it was more than that. He said that as a child, when his mom would drive him past this place, there was a sense of awe and wonder. He remembered wanting to be buried there when he got older. I can relate to that admiration. It is impossible to be in that place and not get a feel for all the sacrifice that has gone into making this nation the best place in the world to live. Here's to Alboan Glass Sr. and Alboan Glass Jr. Thank you for your time and service.

Baby Picture Preview

I had the privilege of taking newborn pictures today for my cousin and his wife. You may remember the maternity pictures here and here. Well, Baby Stetson is here now and I got to spend about 3 hours with him. I hope you like it. I have quite a few to go through, so it will take me a few to get all them processed. I will post more as soon as I can.

Art as a part of my family history

I come from a long line of creative people. I have relatives that are musicians, artists, writers, poets, and photographers. Many of you that know my family know that my great grandmother was a nationally recognized artist who helped others deal with their depression through art. Her work is still around and can be seen in many places.

A couple of summers ago, I went to my Grandma's house and was helping her go through some old pictures. We came across a set that was done by my Great-Great-Great Aunt. Some of them included pictures of my Great Grandmother when she was young. I was fortunate enough to be given digital scans. I thought I would share them with you. In my opinion, she was a progressive artist. Her work is indicative of some of the styles prevalent today. From other pictures I have seen of that time period, hers was more fantasy based. She was an Artist first, and a photographer second. Anyway, I hope you like them.

Playing with Photoshop

I was going through some pictures from the other day. I especially liked this particular image, but for sentimental reasons. Specifically, I like it because it is a picture of me and my "baby". What is not to love about it, right? :-)

I didn't take the picture (I know, Duh!) However, I wanted to play with it and see what I could come up with. I also wanted to try for a more silverish effect on a black and white image. Here is what I came up with. What do you think?

Nathan and Alisha

Every once in a while, I step outside my normal scope of operations. In this case, it was maternity pictures. Those that know me well know that I don't exactly exude the sensitive "maternal" type of artist. However, I think it turned out well. What do you think? I have a few more that I am working on. I will share a few more later on through the week.

I love Photoshop!

Pretty straight forward post. I love being able to take a shot that was lacking due to poor lighting, motion blur, and any number of things and turn it to something useful.

Welcome to my World!!!

This is my first post, so I just wanted to greet everyone and let them get to know me. I live in Chattanooga, TN. I have 3 kids (1 son and 2 girls). My son just turned 12. He is currently in the 6th grade. My middle daughter is turning 9 in January. She is in the third grade. My "baby" turns 5 in a couple of days. I feel so old thinking that she is in pre-K and getting bigger every day. You will hear more about them as time goes on, I am sure.

My hobby is photography. I prefer landscapes, but also enjoy action shots. You will see a little bit of everything here. The primary function of this blog will be to give me a chance to share my work with everyone else. It will also give all of you a chance to give me feedback. I welcome any and all comments. Without constructive criticism, I would not be able to grow as an artist. Along the same lines, if you see a shot that you like, let me know. I am willing to sell most prints. Just let me know what you are looking for, I may already have something to fit the bill!

Until I am able to make a living with only my camera, I have a full  time day job. I currently work as a production scheduler for a poultry processing factory. It pays the bills and gives me lots of headache to compensate!

Anyway, that is enough to start, but more to follow.  Drop me a line, comment, or email me.
